Today’s motivational story of nothing is impossible reflects the challenge given to all the world by carrying 3 tons “3000 KG” Ice block from one corner of the world to the other which measure almost 8500 kilometers in 28 days. The starting point was a city in Norway named Moriana and the ending point was Libreville a city in central Africa.
This unique journey got highlighted when in 1958 a famous radio network (radio Luxemburg, Europe offered a unique challenge to the world that any person who can carry an Iceblock from the arctic region to Africa will be given huge prize money of 100,000 Francis which makes $16000 per kg, making a total of 48 million dollars for 3000 kg
RULES OF CHALLENGE
1. ICEBLOCK will be a single piece
2. Travel only by road
3. No refrigerator allowed
Radio Luxemburg offered this huge amount because they knew that the challenge can be called a mission impossible by all means because this journey was 8500 kilometers and out of these 2500 kilometers was in the African desert where the temperature is 50 degrees (which can melt ice in few minutes)
After broadcasting this radio message no person accepted this challenge for months. However, finally, a managing director of an insolation company (Glassvalt) named Mr. Birger Natvic accepts the challenge. He argued that the insolation product which his company manufactures can help him achieving the challenging target. Inasmuch,
The news spread all over the world as the challenge has been accepted.

Due to the media attention, many sponsors came into the picture and support their mission. Fuel is provided by Shell company and the truck is by Scania trucks limited. Finally, the 3000 kg iceblock is shifted to the truck in one single piece.
The Journey begins
On 27 FEBRUARY 1959 the unique mission begins. The start of travel was easy because roads were developed and climate conditions favored the iceblock. The companies publicity was growing higher. In the meanwhile, while crossing different cities they were welcomed by the locals living there and cheered them all the way. After one week of traveling the truck reached Masaya where it was shifted to a ship and had to travel in the ocean.
Passing by the hardest Route
However, by reaching the other end of the ocean the condition was completely different because they reached the African desert where the temperature was 50 degrees and had to travel 2500 kilometers for 10 days approximately.
Furthermore, the truck had to travel on hot sand with no roads thus making the journey even more difficult because in such conditions the ice melts in few minutes. The team was instructed to pass the desert without any halt. The situation was getting tough from time to time. The more the team was in a hurry the more hurdles they had to face because with no proper roads at all the truck stuck many times in sand and it made them wait for hours to get the tires released from the Sand.
Firm determination confirms destiny
Finally, after traveling for 10 horrifying days in the desert of Africa they managed to pass through it.
After 28 days the truck reached Libreville which was their destination. By reaching the finishing point they were warmly welcomed but all the world was anxious to know about the condition of the Iceblock.
When the Iceblock was weighed people were shocked to note that at the start of the journey the weight was 3000 kg and after 28 days it weighed 2714 kg. Only 336 kgs were melted.
At last, the ice was distributed amongst the people of Gavon for whom the ice was precious because many of them tasted it for the first time.
Reward for Company
Although the radio network backed out from their challenge and Natvic did not get any prize money but the achievement boosted the sales of the company. Glassvalt company exists even today by the name of Glava insolation items and since 1959 its popularity is on the peak.
