India vs Pakistan: The call for a boycott in India ahead of Sunday’s T20 World Cup

The call for a boycott in India ahead of Sunday’s T20 World Cup has raised cricket tensions between India and Pakistan. A series of killings in Indian-occupied Kashmir has sparked outrage, though the Indian board has insisted that the national team cannot back down from the game.

Decades of bitter enmity between neighbors often cloud their cricket matches. In the wake of the deadly attacks in Mumbai, India has largely refused to play a bilateral game against Pakistan since 2008, which India blamed on Pakistan and later vehemently denied.

Now they only play each other in international competitions. The last meeting took place two years ago at the 50-over World Cup, but it was even at the center of boycott calls. The killings of 11 migrant workers and minority Hindus and Sikhs in Indian-occupied Kashmir have made the latest demands in India.

The hashtag #Blacklist Pakistan was trending on Twitter on Wednesday

Rajiv Shukla, vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, had earlier said that it was the responsibility of the agreement to participate in the country. We strongly condemn these killings. However, as promised by the International Cricket Council, you cannot refuse to play a single game, ”Shukla told Indian media.

Gree Raj Singh, a cabinet minister, also urged the government to consider intervening to stop the match. Asked about the match, Singh said. “I think if the relationship is not good, then it should be reconsidered.” Other politicians have also joined the blacks.

Some of the positive remarks

However, Indian badminton great Prakash Padukone said, “Sports and politics should not be mixed and I think it (Pak-India match) should be played.” A suicide bombing in occupied Kashmir in February of that year that killed more than 40 soldiers also prompted India to boycott the 2019 World Cup against Pakistan.

Pakistan denied any role in the attack but the two countries were on the brink of war. India won the game in June 2019. India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series in 2013 when their animosity was a little sore.
