Reason behind Taliban’s empowerment
Every day we see in the news that the Taliban has seized some other areas in Afghanistan. But my question is that have you ever thought that how they do it so easily under the Afghanistan army nose? The answer you may find either would be subjective or distorted.
Let me narrate the whole story for you when Zahir Shah was overthrown from his forty years monarchy by Daud Khan, we caught a glimpse of political instability in Afghanistan. Some orthodox Afghanis had sympathy for Nadir shah but for some the change was necessary.
When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan the orthodox Afghani called jihad “Holy war” against the ruling party– because most of them were either Christians or Atheists.
Taliban adopted guerilla strategy they attacked Soviet army and preferred to hide in the mountains.
Definitely, they had support from the Islamic world especially Pakistan, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. They also said welcome to the US support which was a blessing in disguise.
With such enormous support, they compelled the Soviet Union to retreat from their land. Consequently, the Taliban got confidence they were the winners and the ruler of so-called independent land.
But the incident of 9/11 was another climax for Afghanistan’s political history. The US and its allies approached toward Afghanistan and with their might they defeated Al Qaeda. But Afghan Taliban showed their resistance adequately. Consequently, Doha Agreement came into existence and it was another achievement of the Afghan Taliban.
China’s foreign Minister also hosted Taliban leaders. In a nutshell in diplomatic world the power and status of the Afghan Taliban are more than Afghan government.
Their confidence is not in vacuum they have strived for it and will continue to invade more and more.
I am hopeful for peace in Afghanistan.
