The US government has announced to reopen its borders on 8 November for all those travelers who are fully vaccinated. These travelers will be from 33 different countries. According to the new rules announced by the White House, all vaccinated travelers who tested negative 72 hours before travel will be allowed to enter the US. This announcement clearly shows the end of restrictions that have been imposed on people since last year.
The new policy will apply to Schengen countries as well as India, China, Ireland, Iran, South Africa, UK, and Brazil. The current policy will not apply to the non-US citizen who has been in India, China, Ireland, Iran, South Africa, UK, Brazil, and other European countries within the last 14 days. However, the announcement has created some controversy. Travelers from many countries are traveling freely despite their struggled with a high rate of covid infection.
The US official said that travelers who are jabbed with any vaccines approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are allowed to enter the country. These vaccines include AstraZeneca jab from UK and Sinovac and Sinopharm from China. Further, travelers vaccinated with these vaccines will not be required to go into quarantine upon entering the US.
Foreign nationals welcoming US decision to lift travel ban for fully vaccinated
The US decision is highly welcoming and appreciated by travelers around the world. Some of them have expressed their feeling with BBC. Kent resident Dan Johnson told BBC that he could not see his father in the US because of the restriction. His father died of cancer in March. He further added “I never got to say goodbye and hadn’t seen him since 2019 due to the travel restrictions,” he said. “It’s been the hardest thing in the world. Lifting the ban feels much too late, but does mean that I can finally visit my step-mum and help her sort dad’s belongings.”
Kate Urquhart, a UK national said she wants to travel to Los Angeles to attend a concert. The concert is in November by the famous American band ‘The Monkees’. This news is so great for her as she can now plan her tour to Los Angeles.
CEO of Virgin Atlantic Shai Weiss highly welcomed the announcement from the US. She declared it as a success of the global campaign for vaccination. She further added that such a decision will strengthen the relationship with the US, the economic partner of the UK. Further trade and tourism will be boosted and people from both countries will be able to visit their friends and families.
The new policy will also apply for the fully vaccinated foreign nationals traveling through land borders with Canada and Mexico. However unvaccinated people will still not be allowed to enter through the land borders.
Although the decision taken by US officials is considered to be late, still it is welcoming for the foreigners.
