Xbox One – the black screen of death has returned

Xbox One users across the Internet are reporting that their console has been blocked by its latest software update. Players see themselves permanently stuck on the black screen as they power the console. My Xbox One had the same fate the night before. I turned on my console for the first time in months to be greeted with just a 4.4GB system update. “Business as usual,” I thought, But after the update, my console will be unusable. Thankfully it gives strength. However, it eventually loads on a black screen where I can hold the Xbox button to turn off the console, restart it, or turn off the controller.

News of this issue has been circulating on the internet for several days. When I looked at this issue a couple of nights ago, I saw that an article by Kotaku had been posted the previous day and a Metro article that had already been published. It was a bit shocking to know that the update that broke my Xbox One console has been live for days.

The stomach is not completely gone. Microsoft has a guide on the Xbox Support website that will fix the console, but not without serious damage. This guide basically teaches you how to factory reset your Xbox One, but it can erase accounts, saved games, and settings. And yet, you’ll need a computer with working internet, USB ports, and an external drive to download system files.
